Pastor Andre Thurmon
Pastor Andre Thurmon, Sr. Is a native of Chicago and the founder of St. Mark International Christian Church. A true worshipper and anointed prayer warrior, Pastor Thurmon delivers life principles through the Word of God.
He began his walk with Christ at New Greater Exodus under the leadership of Pastor John Whitehead, Sr. He began to evangelize all over the state of Illinois and was ordained to preach the gospel on October 12, 1991. He accepted his pastoral call in 2002 and established St. Mark M.B. Church on April 14 2002. St. Mark M.B. Church held its first service at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Chicago where over 100 people attended. Since the beginning, the handy work of God has continually manifested itself upon St. Mark’s Ministry, and Gods Divine infallible Word remains at the forefront.
Within a year, the accommodations at the Holiday Inn were quite inadequate due to the membership growth, but God continued to move. Ten months later, in February 2003, St. Mark purchased its first church home located at 5213 W. Potomac and the Lord added souls daily to the minstry.
In 2004, the name of our church was changed so that it effectively reflected the vision. We were St. Mark International Christian Church, A Kingdon-Minded Church with a Life-Changing Ministry. In 2014, Pastor Thurmon was prompted by God to go into a different direction of servant hood and the name was changed to St. Mark International Christian Church, A Church That Serves.
While maintaining our church building, the Lord enlarged our territory and we purchased our second and present church home at 832 N. LeClaire, with a 1200 seat sanctuary and a three-story administration building. Currently, our church family has grown to over 1000 members. In addition, the ministries of SMICC have been enhanced and many new ministries have been added to meet the needs of Kingdom building. To God be the glory fo the things He has done.
As a passionate giver, Pastor Thurmon has given financial support to T.D. Jakes Ministries to help build wells in Africa. He has provided relief for the people in Haiti and to those affected by Hurricane Katrina. He has purchased land for “Teachers To The Nations” in Liberia to build an education and worship facility. He has donated toys to Ronald McDonald House Charities for children who were seriously ill. He has fed and clothed over 60,000 people from our food pantry. He has partnered with Chicago Public Schools to run the Westside Safe Haven Program and provided meals, tutoring, field trips, games, etc. to children ages 5 to 18 after school and during the Sumer months to keep them safe. His work with Chicago Public Schools has earned him two awards. Pastor Thurmon consistently gives back to empower the community by giving scholarships to church members that graduating High School and going to college. He provides leadership, training, and ministers at other churches across the state. He also provides health seminars, financial seminars, and conferences. He truly has the heart of a servant as he continuously provides food and gifts to men, women, and children who are in homeless shelters.
As the founder of St. Mark International Christian Church, Pastor Thurmon balances life and ministry as the dedicated husband of Wendy Thurmon and proud father of two boys Andre Thurmon, Jr. and Joshua Thurmon.
